Jason Boh

Owner/Head Instructor SMA Academy

I began my Martial Arts journey in 1983, studying Shotokan Karate under Sensei Mervyn O’Donnell. I earned my Black Belt at age 13 and quickly developed a passion not only for competing but also for assisting in teaching others.

Driven by a lifelong fascination with Bruce Lee, I travelled regularly to London to train with Guro Bob Breen, eventually becoming an Apprentice Instructor in his Jeet Kune Do/Kali International program. During this time, I had the privilege of meeting Guro Dan Inosanto and continued to attend his UK seminars in London, Edinburgh and Bournemouth. In 1999, I began teaching regular classes, hiring school and community halls to share my growing knowledge.

As I became more involved in the wider Jeet Kune Do (JKD) community, I connected with senior UK instructors including Rick Young, Terry Barnett and Phil Norman. I later became a private student of Terry Barnett, travelling frequently to train with him at his home in Hertfordshire and hosting him annually in Portsmouth for seminars.

In 2006, Terry certified me as an Instructor in his Integrated Arts. The following year, he requested that Guro Inosanto accept me as an Apprentice Instructor within the Inosanto International Martial Art Instructors Association. My commitment to continuous development led me to earn further Instructor credentials under Guro Rick Faye and Daniel Lonero, as well as achieving Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Professor Dave Birkett.

My training continues to this day, travelling internationally to learn from Guro Inosanto in countries such as Germany, Spain, Italy and the USA (Atlanta, Minnesota), as well as at the Inosanto Academy in Los Angeles.

Jason Boh’s School of Martial Arts (SMA) now supports students from age 5 upwards, helping them grow into confident, disciplined, respectful and skilled individuals. Alongside regular classes, I teach private lessons and am frequently invited to Ireland to instruct at the SMA Affiliate School.

I have developed a complete student curriculum and Instructor progression pathway for those wishing to teach, both within SMA and externally. My additional qualifications include a Personal Training Diploma and a Teaching Certificate, further supporting my commitment to high‑quality instruction.

Below is my team of Instructors who honour me by teaching classes and assist in the running of the school. They have been formally certified by myself to teach the arts within the SMA curriculum and remain current and active in their own training in addition to being SMA Instructors.

I began Martial Arts in 2003, initially studying Tae-Kwon-Do and achieved black belt in 2005 at age 12. I continued this journey in Tae-Kwon-Do until 14 years of age before finding Jason Boh’s School of Martial Arts and starting over anew.

Since then, I have not looked back and only forward, constantly learning, evolving, and finding my own way under Jason’s guidance. Studying Jeet Kune Do / Kali has not only improved myself in Martial Arts over the years but also had an impact on how I am as a person outside of the school.

Some-time after achieving Black Belt under Jason, I decided the next step for me was to teach – the learning doesn’t stop once you reach Black Belt in fact it only just begins. Through the school I have had the opportunity to train with some of top-quality instructors both within and outside Jason Boh’s School of Martial Arts, including the world-renowned Guro Inosanto in Spain and Germany which has been an irreplaceable experience. Not forgetting the other students whom I train with on a regular basis!

SMA Instructor Level 1 SMA Academy

I started Martial arts at the age of 6 years old under my Sensei Jason Boh. From 2012 to 2015 I worked my way through the grades and achieved Brown belt at 10-years-old. In this time I had also been completing my studies in Kali. I had spent time developing my skills and attributes in acting as a role model to my fellow students. This aided my confidence and coaching skills to develop. In 2019, at the age of 14 I achieved Black belt as certified under Sensei Jason Boh. After achieving Black belt, this began my journey of guiding other students, moreover, reinforcing my vital role in helping and coaching others. In 2021, I received my Level 1 Junior Instructor. This gave me opportunities to develop my instructor role by teaching and coaching my own group of students. I teach the Junior 5–7-year-olds in order to develop their training techniques and skills. This has given me the privilege of instructing other young students and aiding their growth and knowledge.

When I was younger I dabbled in judo and boxing but my real martial arts journey began in 2008 when I started training in an art called taiho jutsu. This art is used by the Japanese police force and is a blend of jiu jitsu, judo, aikido and karate. I achieved my black belt in 2015. At this time I was also studying Jeet Kune do and kali when I joined Jason Boh’s school of martial arts in 2009. I was awarded my black belt in 2023 and I received my trainee level 1 instructor in early 2024. I really enjoy the grappling arts so I help run the BJJ group and I received my blue belt under professor Dave Birkett in 2024.
I have also been very fortunate to meet and train under Guru Dan Inosanto in Los Angeles and in Modena, Italy.

Before joining Jason Boh’s School of Martial Arts, my only experience with martial arts came from watching martial arts films as a kid. That’s where I first discovered Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Martial Arts. However, it wasn’t until 2022 that I took my first real step into training, initially joining SMA to complement my pre-season rugby programme.
Not long after, a rugby injury forced me to step away from the sport. What initially felt like a setback turned out to be a blessing in disguise—it gave me the opportunity to fully commit to my martial arts journey. With more time to train, my passion for the arts deepened. I soon began taking regular, weekly private lessons with Guro Jason Boh, in addition to attending all classes, workshops and seminars.
Over the past year, I’ve also had the privilege of assisting with the Junior class, where I take great pride in helping young students develop their skills and confidence.
Training at Jason Boh’s SMA has expanded my understanding of martial arts far beyond physical techniques. It’s shown me how its philosophies and principles apply not just within the dojo, but in everyday life. In May 2025, I earned my Trainee Level 1 Instructor certification, and I’ll soon be based permanently in the Philippines, where I plan to continue my studies and further enrich everything I’ve learned under Guro Jason Boh.

From a young age I was interested in the martial arts, mainly through watching Bruce Lee movies and all those who followed. I tried a couple of different styles when I was younger (Judo & Japanese Ju-Jitsu), but neither seemed to connect with me at that young age. Fast forward into adulthood and my passion was reignited when I discovered the art of Wing Chun, which I have been studying since 2010 and achieved the level of 3rd Technician Grade. During this time, I also started attending Arnis seminars under the tutelage of Tuhon Pat O’Malley. I found the 2 styles complemented each other perfectly and was keen to learn more about the Filipino martial arts. In 2020 I was fortunate to find Jason Boh’s School of Martial Arts, and I have been training under Guro Boh and the team of instructors ever since including Seminars with Guro Terry Barnett. In December 2025 I was awarded my trainee level 1 instructor certificate. I have always enjoyed being able to pass my knowledge on to my fellow training partners. Now I have the privilege of instructing at the school, aiding in the growth and wellbeing of our students.

The SMA Affiliate Instructor Program is for those who like what we do but are unable to train with me on a regular basis. This is ideal for both existing Instructors/Schools as well as the less experienced.
